When companies and leaders embrace positivity and encourage their employees to be positive as well, it can make a huge difference in how well that company and those leaders perform.
Dr. Martin Seligman an American psychologist and self-help book writer specializes in studying how authentic happiness can drastically change the work place and mind set of employees and leaders alike.  Dr. Martin Seligman has identified five different elements that can lead to a fulfilling and happy life and workplace experience:
  • Positive Emotion
  • Engagement
  • Relationships
  • Meaning
  • Achievement

As indicated, the five areas are things that not only directly correspond to individuals but also to the work place.  Additionally, positive emotion is important for everyone in the corporate world especially when the leader has a positive attitude.  Having a better attitude and positive emotion can also increase your resilience which means that you will be more flexible in difficult situations and have the strength to get through those types of issues.

Building good relationships with employees is a vital part to running a business especially in the corporate world.  When you build bonds with your employees it lets them know that you appreciate them and care for their well-being and emotional state.  Just that type of bond alone can help your employees develop a positive attitude and resilience when they encounter difficult situations.
The Bottom line is this:  Positivity can play a huge role in how your leaders, employees and teams perform in the corporate world.

How to take charge of your professional learning path in
5 easy steps!

As I have been coaching, I have noted that the most successful people
have a vision for their work life.
You may consider these steps to start the process moving.

1. Chart Your Course.   To chart any course, you have to know where you are and where you want to go. While it sounds cliché, think about where you want to be in 2-5 years. What skills will you require? What knowledge will you need? Do you have the experience that will support your career objective? You might need to update your technology capabilities, add to your credentials, or take on more of a leadership role. Create a list of the things you’ll need when you get there, and start packing.

2. Take Action.   Don’t wait for your company to offer a class or to register you for training. There are a lot of available opportunities through free webinars, community colleges, or mentor programs. Many colleges and universities have audit programs that allow you to attend a class for a minimal fee.  While you may not earn college credit, you gain the experience.

3. Training.   Take the initiative to meet with your supervisor, and share your plan. Ask for support, and for reimbursement for classes you want to take. If you manager is aware of your desire for training, it is more likely that he/she will include it in the budget, and you’ll get the green light to get the training you want.

4. Update Information.  As you update your knowledge, update your resume. Even if you don’t intend to look for a new job, keeping your resume up-to-date is a good way to track your progress. Make sure you list classes you’ve attended, credentials you’ve earned, notable experiences, and the results you achieved.

5. Evaluate.  As you go, make sure you’re still on the right path. Things change quickly, and trends may emerge that offer you a different route. Make sure you’re on a training path that will get you where you want to go. Or, if you change your destination, make sure you’re getting the training you need to get you there.

Why Can’t We Just Get Along?

Often because we just don’t think and respond in the same way as others. Individuals tend to have favorite ways of resonding and behaving?

Conflict is based on unmet expectations! So when an individual responds to you differently than what you expect, you tend to make them wrong. Why not learn more about how people are wired and then learn to adapt your style to get a better outcome?

See below for some Ideas based on the DiSC Asessment model.

Keep in mind the different behavioral styles of the individuals involved and what would be an acceptable outcome for both. In other words, how do you prepare and achieve a win/win?

D – Needs to win… let them figure out what can be done to right the situation
– Can be very blunt
– Can challenge what you say…so be prepared and stay on topic

i – Wants everyone to be happy
– Does not want to lose their social standing with the group
– Wants everyone to be their friend… share some positive attributes and assure them that “this” can be worked

S – Finds conflict very uncomfortable
– Strives for harmony with the group
– Likes time to think things over and reflect on what is said before taking action

C – Remembers the details of the situation so be prepared with facts to back up your accusations
– May be slow to react on what is being said because they are thinking through the situation presented
– May not display any emotions…have a suggested plan on how the situation can be resolved

Practice or think through how you might change your approach!
